¿Día de gracias?

I knew it was a special occassion of some sort when Mamá Tica's grandson, Esteban, led us into the dining room for dinner. This is our fourth week here, and we always eat in the kitchen. I have no problem eating in the kitchen, but it felt like Thanksgiving tonight because we were all gathered around the long wooden table. The reason? We had guests tonight--the newlyweds--Catalina y Carlos. Catalina is the youngest, and only, daughter of Mamá Tica. They have been married just over a month and are such a cute couple! We had "comida típica" tonight. I can't tell you exactly everything we ate, because I'm not exactly sure. Rice, of course, half of a baked potato, corn, yucca, half of a green vegetable that reminded me of cabbage but tasted better. There was also a roast, but of course I didn't eat the meat! Then we each had a bowl of beef broth. I wasn't sure how to begin...sip on the broth? Eat my veggies? I was a little nervous to eat my corn at first because I've grown up eating it while holding it in my hands. I didn't want to pick it up, begin chomping away, and have my familía Tica thinking that I was raised on a farm! So I scrupulously watched my Tica family and it appeared that a) they eat corn the same way and b)they were all putting the veggies, rice and meat into the broth. ¡Buen idea!
